Maintaining The Beauty Of Your Wool Rugs

Wool rugs are important to us so to maintain the beauty and good looks. We are required to do maintain the cleaning of it. When cleaning your area rugs, there are a few things that you must remember.  Things that you must do and cannot do. Wool rugs can last a long time if they are cleaned properly. They are durable, and are they can be cleaned easily. Cleaning for them involves vacuuming, sweeping, beating, rotating, and making sure that the stains and spots come out of them.

When you are getting ready to clean them, there are some things that you can and cannot do:

Hang up the rugs outside and beat them. This should only be done once each month, weather permitting. Beat each one a few times to get rid of the stubborn dirt that won't come out. To keep the sheen in the wool material, use a broom to sweep them one time every week. This helps to get rid of soil and dirt that did not come out before. Sweeping also helps because it makes vacuuming easier.

Use a vacuum on the wool rugs no more than three times every week. Vacuuming can help to get rid of dirt and dust that got into the surface and stayed. Since fibers loosen up, having an excess is normal. In order to get the best results for them, put the vacuum at the highest setting.

If there is a spill, get some paper towels and blot it up quickly. Blotting works better than scrubbing because the fibers in the material can get matted and are difficult to separate. Continue to use the paper towels to get up as much as will go on there.

If the wool rugs have stains or spots, dry carpet cleaning can be used to get rid of them. Spray right on the stains or spots. Blend the solution into it using your hands or a cloth make sure it's clean. Do not scrub. Let the foam solution completely dry. Vacuum the entire area to get rid of the dirt and foam.

When you are cleaning wool rugs, you cannot use abrasive soap or detergents, cleaners that contain oxygen. The fibers could be damaged if you used any of the above. They should not remain wet for an extended stretch of time. Quickly remove spills or water. The rug should stay dry at all times.

Please recommend an affordable wool or wool blend yarn?

I've been told that the reason my crocheting isn't stretchy is likely because I'm using acrylic yarn. I live in a small town so there's nowhere but Walmart to get yarn here. I can drive about an hour and make it to a Hobby Lobby or Michael's.

Can you please recommend a wool or wool blend yarn that is nice, but not super expensive that I can get at one of those stores or online?

Also, can you wash wool or does it turn into felt?

I wash wool all the time, in very hot water with soap. I wash it right off the sheep, after I spin it, after I knit it. I don't have a problem with felting. You have to learn to keep your hands off it! It's the touching, rubbing that felts wool.. not washing it.

You are not going to find any good yarn at Hobby Lobby or Joann's either. They will have more of the same acrylic. You may find some sock yarn with 75% wool at Michael's, but that is limited. Find yourself a real yarn store and get the very best. There are many online stores now too that carry beautiful yarns. Try knitpicks or elan. It will make your work so much nicer.

But you know that crochet doesn't stretch much at all. It is not supposed to. Knitting has more stretch, if that is what you want. You can try using a larger hook, and loosen up on your tension somewhat as well. Some stitches will have more stretch than others.

Be sure you are using crochet yarn... knitting yarn is made a little differently and may not work as well for you.
