Why do the 3D glasses warn not to use as sunglasses when not wearing sunglasses at all is just as bad?

I've often wondered about the theatre glasses and sunglasses in general warning that they don't protect against UV rays. So, what about walking outside without any sunglasses at all? Do the glasses mysteriously magnify the rays instead?

I say, if it lets you see better by shading your eyes, it's better than nothing.

Thoughts?

If it shades your eyes, your pupils open up and let in even more UV light, so it is harmful. Sorry. Don't wear 3D glasses in the sun.
