How do you "season" cast iron cookware?

I bought some cast iron cookware on eBay and later found that it wasn't seasoned. How do I season it?

Wipe it out well with a paper towel or damp cloth, then make sure it is totally dry inside and out. Coat the inside with shortening or vegetable oil and put it into your oven on low. Make sure it is upside down and place a cookie sheet underneath it to catch any drippings. Keep it in the oven for about 1/2 hour and then remove and put away.
