They don't call it a legal name change for no reason. This is now the mans real name and they (IMO) are disrespecting the man by not printing his real name on his jersey. So I understand the reebok business aspect of the situation but isn't that considered a risk of doing business? What happens to all the unsold brett farve packer jerseys when he goes to the jets. Are those just grandfathered and sent overseas. I'm sure there was alot more left over farve (packer) jerseys than there was c. johnson jerseys. Are they trying to just single chad out?

As you mentioned, the contractual obligations that the NFL has with Reebok certainly played a hand in this. Remember, we don't have all the contracts that the NFL, the NFLPA, and Reebok have.

Also, its a way to prevent someone like Chad to do a promotional stunt; certain players would be willing to legally change their name to, lets say, "Yahoo.com", that way if Yahoo paid him money, they would get advertising ("Yahoo.Com" on the back of the player's jersey). The NFL is trying to keep some semblance of order in their otherwise tightly controlled world.
