A Review of Wind-up Watches and Quartz Watches

Wind-up watches were widely in use before the invention of quartz watches. Wind-up watches were considered as the best personal timekeeping instruments for most people.

Wind-up watches consist of a spring that provide power to it. To show the time on the watch, there is an oscillator. There is a dial on every watch with numbers and two hands of the watch that show hours and minutes. For easy movements of the watch, there are gears that link everything.

There were some shortages of these watches. For example, you need to wind up these watches to supply enough power when lacked, and the accuracy may not be so faithful as it is dependent on the timely winding of the watch; when the watch wound down, it would slow down and give inaccurate time.

Aiming to solve the disadvantages of the wind-up watches, quartz watches are introduced. A slim piece of synthetic quartz is used in quartz watches to measure time. Synthetic quartz is preferred over natural quartz because of its consistency. To generate vibration in the quartz clock, electric charge is applied. This vibration is necessary to keep the precise time. All modern watches today use quartz.

With quartz watches you can save the trouble of winding periodically. Most quartz watches are powered with battery. Nevertheless, there are some that are powered by tiny kinetic generator that works by the movement of wrist.

Compared with mechanical watches, quartz watches are much better since they are more precise and lose less than one minute in accuracy per year. A Quartz Watch should be your right choice if you are thinking of buying a watch.
