SUPER EAGLES SHOW OF SHAME AGAINST TUNISIA IN ABUJA..........MUCH ADO ABOUT SHAIBU AMODU TACTICS

Following the lackluster performance by the super eagles of Nigeria, and the ultimate miss of the fifa world cup 2010 ticket, at the national stadium, Abuja when they faced Tunisia, there is uproar in town. Every reasonable Nigerian has come to terms, and questioned the integrity of the super eagle’s chief coach, Shaibu Amodu to still pilot the affairs of the nation’s football team. The only thing I hear anywhere I go and from all angles is that the respected gentleman should resign, or be sacked.

 

But the problem that has long plagued this great nation called Nigeria is bad leadership; putting a square peg in a round hole, forgoing meritocracy for mediocrity. Until those at the helm of affairs, the NFA and the NFF understand how football lovers all over the country feel about the fact that Nigeria will not be represented at the world cup to be hosted in Africa for the first time; things will always remain the same.  We were lucky to have qualified for the African Nations Cup; else thunderbolt and unquenchable fire would be raining on Amodu and his crew by now.

 

Emphatically, I am of the opinion that Amodu Shaibu should be sacked, Samson Siasia be brought in to replace him, or a good and an experience foreign coach be employed. If we have to employ a local coach, then he must be Siasia; and if we have to go for a foreign coach, then we must not repeat the mistake we made when we employed Berti Vogt’s. This is my humble opinion. You may want to know the reasons for what may seem a harsh decision on our kinsman Amodu; I am not giving a dog name in order to hang it, and since the only factor of unification in this country where the masses smile in suffering, I hope you understand the importance of what I mean.

 

We have seen a good number of coaches in the whole wide world both retired and serving; we know a good number of them. most successful ones among them include sir, Alex Ferguson of Manchester united, Jose Mourinho of inter Milan, Joseph Guadiola of Barcelona, Hiddink of Russia, Rafael Benitez of Liverpool, Anceloti of Chelsea, Capelo of England, and others. We know their ebullient and dynamic vibrancy.  Their curiosity and tenacious charisma is nothing to write home about. Reiterating the fact that their success in many a tournament have been anchored on their determination and zeal to take their teams forward, is to say the least. Successful coaches round the globe are men of unflinching principles. They know what they want; tell their employers what they want, why they want it and how to get it. When their demands are met, they go out there and deliver. The only indigenous coach that can rank among the highlighted coaches and others is Samson Siasia.

Successful coaches are men of tenacity. They characterize and master the art of doing business i.e. they are always be in business mood. This eludes Amodu little wonder he sat like a spectator and watched his team collapse in front of Nigerians right inside our house. Once a coach knows a player will not deliver, he doesn’t play him regardless of past; pending when he returns to full fitness. We see this happen across the continent. Ronaldihno, Ronaldo Delima, Kaka, Bechkam, Owen and others, one time or the other were not played by their respective coach due to loss of fitness. The first three, were one time FIFA Players of the year. The reason is that, their coaches know the art of taking every game serious.  They also know that a point lost is lost forever, and therefore will do everything within their wits to garner all points they come across. I don’t think our most intelligent coach; in the person of Shaibu Amodu knows this.

 

When a coach does what he is supposed to do in the training pitch and dressing room, he goes to the field to watch his team play and win. Yes, every coach plays to win every game. Some choose to sit down and watch like spectators, while others to choose to stand and shout at their players, while the game last. The latter, has been adjudged by a good number of people as another tactics of winning a match. Jose mourinho, Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Rafael Benitez, and Josep Guardiola would never sit like spectators. They would stand from the beginning of the game to the end; shouting at their players like a mad man in the street. As far as they are concerned, this is the only they can rejuvenate their players with what they tell them in the dressing room. This concept is not in our revered coach, Amodu Shaibu’s agenda. He chooses to sit like a spectator from the beginning of a match to the end, even when wining the match is as important as winning one billionaire dollar lottery. After all, the most experienced coaches he should learn from don’t know what they are doing, even after going for some months training with them. The rest will be discussed another day.

The real reason why Amodu should be sacked is because he does not have conscience like any other coach elsewhere in the world. I challenge him to prove to numerous Nigerians he has thrown into mourning mood that he has one, and resign his position as the chief coach of the super eagles. Yes, this is the only way he could prove me wrong. Having lost the match that would keep our hope to grace the first ever world cup to be held in Africa, and alleviate the enormity of the blow, Chief Gani’s death has caused Nigerians, one expected him to do himself a favour by resigning his appointment. Spalleti, AS Roma’s coach resigned his appointment as the chief coach of his team last week, simply because he lost two successive matches. What could be more honorable than that?  A nursemaid should be expected to go when the child she is nursing is dead. In this case, Amodu is the nursemaid, world cup dream the child; since the dream of making it to the world cup is dead following what Tunisia Coach said, I think we don’t need Amodu again. Tunisia’s coach according the complete sports of September 8, said that Nigerians world cup party is over. I want to tell you that I believe him in total.

Let me seize this opportunity to sympathize with fellow Nigerians who had looked forward to seeing their nation’s flag fly in South Africa in the fifa world cup 2010, and encourage us to take solace in the fact that after these days of famine in Nigeria characterized by bad leadership, Nigeria will one day win the world cup. This might sound impossible to many of us, but, one day, our dream shall come true. Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State and PPA presidential candidate in the 2007 election, knows what to do to achieve this fit.
