How to best light up deck post tops

Imagine a traditional lamp post. It is likely to have a traditional “lantern” fixture at the top. It is more than likely going to be made of steel or some other durable material and it will probably not cast its glow in a large distance from its location.

Interestingly, this is far from the case where solar lamp posts are concerned, and one of the key benefits in their purchase is the flexibility they offer. While most “hard wired” lamp post units are not easily converted or used in any other way but their original intention, the majority of solar lamp posts allow for the post top, or lantern, to be removed and installed in a huge number of ways. They can appear on decks, shorter poles or fence posts or even on a rooftop.

Solar lighting fixtures of this variety now come in a huge array of styles, shapes and materials, but all are made to be highly portable, incredibly durable and long-lasting. Consider that they utilize LED bulbs, which require maintenance on a very limited basis – usually only once every few years. They have no need for electrical services because they are powered strictly by the sun, and the majority of modern fixtures will have their solar collectors built directly into their housing, which means they are not required to be wired to any other solar component.

They are among the most free-standing and easy to install solar deck lights currently available because of their design and configuration. They can be set on such locations as fence posts surrounding a swimming pool where they can illuminate the entire setting in a consistent and reliable fashion. They can also be placed around a deck or patio where the lanterns can be easily transported to the areas requiring the most light. They can serve as path or stair indicators and they can also be used in a decorative fashion throughout an entire yard or garden space.

The greatest benefit is their total independence. Where yard, garden or landscape lighting designs can often cost thousands of dollars to purchase and install, the use of solar lamp post tops and lanterns require only the single installation of the post or mount and the entire job is complete. Clearly this is one of the most environmentally beneficial approaches to exterior lighting, and thanks to the many manufacturers and produces of these fixtures; it is also one of the most stylish.
