Taj Mahal Tourism in India

Taj Mahal,One of the modern seven wonders of the world. It is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in the world and the finest example of the late style of Indian Islamic architecture. The Mughal emperor Shah Jahan ordered it built after the death (1629) of his favorite wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Set in its carefully laid out grounds, it is a reflection of the gardens of Paradise to which the faithful ascend. The entire complex, with gardens, gateway structures, and mosque, was completed in 1653.

History of Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal was built by the fifth Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. She died in childbirth while accompanying her husband to Burhanpur to control a rebellion. The Taj Mahal was the outcome of the one of the four promises that Mumtaz Mahal extracted from Shah Jahan while she was alive. Taj Mahal symbolizes eternal love of a man for his wife. The body of the queen was buried temporarily in the Zainabadi Garden in Burhanpur and moved to Agra after six months.

The land on which the Taj Mahal was built was acquired from Raja Jai Singh. The construction began in 1631 AD and completed in 22 years. 20,000 labors and artisans were employed for the work. The material for the mausoleum was brought from all over India and central Asia. The Iranian architect Ustad Isa designed the structure.

Architecture of Taj Mahal

The Taj is situated 900 ft away from the entrance gate at the opposite end of the garden. The tomb is built over a marble plinth, which rests over a high sandstone base. Four tapering minarets on the four corners of the marble plinth flank the tomb. The minarets rise to a height of 138 ft and are crowned by with eight windowed cupolas over the marble plinth.

The main building is built of marble and is square in plan with chamfered corners. Each side of the corner has an iwan adorned with calligraphy. There are small rectangular double arches one over the other on both sides of the iwan. The arched alcoves of equal sizes at the angles of the tomb are semi-octagonal. The pilasters demark each section of the façade on both side, which rises from plinth of the tomb up to the frieze and are topped by beautiful pinnacles with lotus buds and finials

Originally part of the kingdom of Rajputs, Delhi came under the control of the Turkish invaders in early 12th century AD. Since then this ancient city has seen countless shifts in power. It has remained the coveted prize in India, for he who ruled Delhi ruled India. Several dynasties that have ruled from Delhi have left their marks all over the city. Today it is the capital of India and a metropolis bustling with activity. There are numerous tourist attractions in Delhi. The Red Fort, Qutb Minar, Humayun’s tomb, and the old fort are among the well known historic monuments of Delhi. The India gate, Raj path, Rashtrapati Bhawan, and the parliament house are the other famous landmarks of the city. Besides, you will also have a chance to visit the museums, mosques, temples, and famous markets of the city on a tour to Delhi from Agra.

Mathura:
Mathura is the revered birthplace of lord Krishna, one of the most popular Indian deities. It is located on the west bank of Yamuna River about 62 kms North West of Agra. The chief attraction of this ancient city is the room inside the Sri Krishna Janmabhumi temple which is believed to be the exact birthplace of lord Krishna. The 25 ghats of Mathura are also among its chief attractions. These are the sites of the holy baths and the daily rituals of the Hindus. Besides being home to countless temples and Hindu religious spots, Mathura is also known for the magnificent Jami Masjid, and the church of the sacred heart, which is a roman catholic church. The government museum is a must watch spot in Mathura, housing artifacts belonging to the period between 5th century BC to 4th century AD. This place used to be a great center of Buddhism under the Kushanas. The famous headless statue of Kanishka is displayed in this museum.

What to wear to job shadow an architect?

I really want to double major at UMR in Arch E, and EE (environmental). I'm going to job shadow my 2nd cosin who is an architect next week. So this opportunity is very important to me and my future.

I have no idea what is appropriate to wear. Keep in mind that i am a sixteen year old girl. Help please! I don't want to make a bad impression, and i want the experience to be completely professional.

Wear a nice pair of slacks and a blouse. After the first day just mimick the style of dress that you see in the office.
