Beer Mugs Versus Beer Glasses

Beer drinkers have been known to debate the advantages of mugs over glasses from time to time.  Beer mugs don't showcase the beer. You can't see the color as well and they aren't designed to bring the bouquet to your attention.  On the other hand, the thicker glass of a beer mug holds the cold for longer. So if you like to sip your beer, a nice thick chilled glass beer mug will keep it nice and cold longer than a beer glass will.

 

Then there's the question of what kind of glass to use.  When you see beer glasses for sale, there are lots of different kinds.  Each kind is for a certain kind of beer.  That's okay for beer connoisseurs, but for beer drinkers that just drink a particular brand and don't know whether it’s pilsner or an ale, beer mugs serve the purpose quite well.

 

As Americans become increasingly savvy about wine, there has been an increase in their knowledge of different beers as well.  Micro breweries are springing up even faster than new vineyards.  These gourmet breweries teach their patrons about the proper glasses for drinking certain types of beer.  Many of them also offer their own custom beer glasses for sale, so educating beer drinkers can also bring long term promotional benefits as well.

 

If you go to websites that have beer glasses for sale, you will find there are more than a dozen different types of beer glasses and at least two types of beer mugs.  Regular beer mugs usually have straight sides and a handle; beer steins usually have sides that slope inward, a handle and a lid.  As for glasses, there are pilsner glasses, footed pilsner glasses, tulip glasses, pint glasses, wheat beer glasses, nonik glasses, flutes, chalices and more.  Each type of glass is intended to highlight the characteristics of a particular beer.

 

Beer mugs suit the basic beer drinker who isn't interested in sampling special types of beers, Beer glasses are meant for the more serious beer drinker who may actually have beer drinking or brewing as a hobby.  Like wine, beer is meant to be served in a glass that brings out its best qualities.  Apparently, there are fewer kinds of wines than there are beers.

Which is better a beer mug or a beer glass?  That depends on the person who's drinking the beer.  For most people either one works just fine. In fact, for many, if there isn't a glass or a mug handy, straight from the bottle will work just fine.

The Middy (Sometimes now reffered to as Half Pint). Used To Be The Middle Size Between A 5, 6, 7 or 8oz.(For The Ladies)(Pony's, Bobby's, Butcher's etc) and The Schooner.
Now that alot of pubs only have the 2 larger sizes, The Name has just remained (as it should).(Preserve our Traditions)

In Qld, There Was an attemp to indroduce a small lady's size back in the day But since Qld Women aren't Quite as reserved when it comes to a refreshing ale, and everyone is generally more thirsty, It Never Took Off (implemented, but never popular, So No Need To Call It A Middy)---- ------ ------ ------ -----

As for The Word Pot, Qld-ers & Victorians have traditionally been more ruff in a pubs in language especially. "Haven't a Pot To Pi55 in, ...Etc". Was always a poular saying and when somone said this, somtimes a mate would pass them an empty 10oz (pot) "here now ya got one" It just took off from there.-------

on diferrent occasions and when the publican said "that's not a pot" the bloke then would have said something like "well I need one to Pi55 in and a window tothrow it out of.(or something to that effect.)(Queenslanders are known for wit as dry as the bush). --------

SCHOONER is Easier, because It's the biggest of the one man Yachts(or sailboats) and WAS the biggest beer untill The Pint started taking over everywhere.
