Summer Straw Hats – Blend of Style and Utility

Does wearing a beanie hat all day every day damage or dry out hair?

I've been wearing a beanie for the past 2 months every day and I have thick, dry, coarse, curly hair. I feel like I might be contributing to the dryness, am I by wearing a hat all the time?

Wearing any sort of head wear doesn't do you any favors. Fitted hats and the elastic (one size fits all) fitted hats tend to cut off circulation to your scalp, which leads to your hair falling out. With beanies, it's a little different because they don't constrict as much. What they do however is make your head sweat, sweat contains salt, and salt sucks the moisture out of hair, leaving you with dry hair.

You can minimize the effects by conditioning your hair 3 or 4 times a week and by using a moisturizing shampoo. Your scalp naturally oils your hair, shampooing on a daily basis strips the oils away. So, shampoo less, condition more, and let your head breathe (go without the hat) every couple of days.
